In the event that a Republican candidate has this burning desire to tell the truth to his constituents, the GOP has send out a 280-page campaign primer to show them how to avoid doing something that absurd.
It offers such advice as “Avoid supporting any specific proposal for personal retirement accounts” – the concept backed by President Bush to let workers invest part of their payroll taxes on their own. And “never use the word ‘privatize’ when referring to Medicare modernization or reforms.” The volume covers defense, the environment, taxes, Medicare and other campaign issues. Each chapter includes a section entitled “Answering liberal critics” with suggested answers to potentially troubling questions.
Of course, there’s no place in this primer that suggests that they just tell the truth…that would be silly.
