As god is my witness, I will never go voteless again!
Update 9/06/02: Ok…that was a big ol, giant, bush-dick-sucking, christian-right jerkoff fest. Really, what a huge waste of time.
It was a long, hard race, but I stand before you, the new Independent Senator for the Great State of Texas. I shall serve proudly and well.
Ok, not really. Like the Repubs in this state would elect a.) a woman, b.) a tan skinned woman, c.) a liberal tan skinned woman, d.) a liberal tan skinned woman who thought the drug war was a total waste of time, money and effort.
When pigs can fly, would that happen in real life. But damn it Beavis, the Net ain’t real life! There’s a new group being formed: the simulation, on Yahoo, of the United States Government!
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Sim_US/
Currently seating the 100 members of the United States Senate. Join Sim_US and request to be seated as a United States Senator. Choose any available state. Jump into the fray. What purpose will it serve? Who the heck knows…but it looks like a pretty fun social experiment, no?
So when you join, come by and say Howdy to Dejah Thoris, the proud Indy Senator from Texas. We’ll have a coffee and plan the overthrow of the right wing side of the Senate.
Here’s what I posted as my introduction to the other sitting members of the Senate.
How do, y’all. I’m Dejah Thoris, the Independent Senator from the Great State of Texas.
I’m fairly liberal, but I don’t much care for tying myself down to one school of thought, or politics, hence the Independent ticket. As F. Scott Fitzgerald once so succinctly put it: “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.” This quote may best sum up my political stand.
I am pro-choice, but also believe that all law abiding citizens have the right to possess firearms. I’m against subsidizing corporations with tax payer dollars, but am for subsidizing medicine and medical care for the working class and socializing it for the poor. I’m against the H1B visa laws, especially during a period when American workers are out of jobs. I am for the legalization of street drugs and taxing them. It should raise enough revenue to replace income taxes.
I’m for freedom of speech and against the RIAA. I think the DMCA and the Patriot Act were bad laws, hastily implemented, by a group of corporate-sponsored government lackeys incapable of understanding the burden they’d just placed on the average American citizen.
I don’t think a war is the way to fix our energy problems. I do think we should invest resources to start wind farms and solar collection farms. I am however, not out to save the world. I think America needs to fix herself before she should be the official police of the planet. I would argue that a more isolationist posture would be beneficial not only to our citizens, but for the citizens of the
world. I believe that we should pay our teachers more, and keep American children from going to bed hungry and provide safe havens for the homeless before we continue shipping billions and billions of dollars to other countries.
So, as you can see…I don’t really come down firmly in any one political camp…hence, the Independent appellation.
Pleased to meetcha! I look forward to us all causing a ruckus with the esteemed overfed bureaucrats on the other side of the Senate. There’s nothing much more fun than tweakin’ their ratty little noses, is there?
Sen. Dejah Thoris
Independent from the Great State of Texas
