So, remember all those people who actually *showed up* for their military service? Lots of them have been wounded in the service of their country. But, House Republicans today have recommended that a budget resolution that would cut $844 million from veterans medical care next year and $9.7 billion over the next 10 years. In addition, the budget resolution would cut $15 billion from the disability compensation and other benefit programs over the next 10 years. But hey…that 1.57 trillion dollar tax cut for the wealthy has to come from somewhere, right?
Of course, you can always call the Speaker of the House (J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) 202-225-2976 fax: 202-225-0697 email@example.com ) and your congresscritters and ask them to vote no and voice your displeasure. Maybe you could remind Congressman Hasert that he avoided the draft in Vietnam by claiming he had bad knees…despite the fact that he was a wrestling coach. The Majority Leader, Tom DeLay (R-TX) avoided Vietnam by going to grad school. Ya know, as a matter of fact, the Majority Whip, Roy Blunt (R-MO)…he got out of Vietnam too. None of the Congresscritter Republicans have any kids in the active service. And they can vote raises for themselves, tax cuts for their cronies, spend hundreds of billions to wage a war, but then deny the people who have fought in congressionally mandated battlefields benefits and services.
Sick. Just freaking sick.
