“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.” – President Dwight D. Eisenhower, April 16, 1953

If you click here, you will find a running total of the amount of money spent by the US Government to finance the war in Iraq. Below the total are a number of different ways that we could have chosen to use the money. For example, when I last looked, for what we’ve spent in Iraq, we could have built almost 780,000 public housing units, or funded over a million 4 year scholarships, or provided healthcare for 24,000,000 kids, or hired over a million new teachers. But, don’t we all sleep better knowing that we’ve liberated the oil fields for Halliburton?
