So, I went to vote…and ended up the chairperson of the democratic precinct delegation to the convention. Hee hee. Kucinich all the way! We had our precinct caucus this evening, introduced and passed two resolutions to be added to the Texas Democrat party platform. Now I have to go review all that stuff I would have learned in civics class if it hadn’t been scheduled for some obscene hour in the morning…like how the Texas delegation system actually works.
We have the Senatorial convention in 3 weeks. I don’t know if I’ll get to go to the state and national conventions…but it would be great fun if I could…if only so I can be the token black-wearing, Kucinich waving, “steer the starship towards the sun”, delegate.
But you know what’s totally depressing about all of this? I was one of the last people to vote today…3 districts had been combined into one polling place. At the end of the night, only 144 votes had been cast, out of districts that easily had a population in the 10,000+ range. Maybe it’s just because Kerry has already been anointed, or perhaps people didn’t realize that there were also judges, sheriffs and assorted other people to vote for/against…but is it any wonder we get the type of government we have, when nobody shows up to vote?
