So, remember my earlier post about Second Life? I’ve decided it’s a total waste of code and bandwidth. I can’t get it to stay connected for longer than 10 minutes at a time. And dig this…on my computer, which is a relatively new, top of the line Alienware, with a gig of ram, a GeForce 4 video card with 512 megs of ram, and the fastest harddrive known to man and a wide open DSL pipe…this game crawls on my system. Crawls. It’s like trying to play EQ on a dialup it’s so chunky and slow. Bleh. Plus, I get logged out every 10 minutes, my password doesn’t work to get me into the support section, for some reason…and their answer to people with problems is to, get this, flash your BIOS. Are they fucking nuts? Flash the BIOS? Like I’m going to take a chance that I turn my computer into a paperweight so I can play a stupid game? As though. Puh-lease.
So, I’m going to try the new Ryzom open beta and see what I think of it. I downloaded the code and installed it, but it was so late I didn’t really get a chance to play it. It looks pretty cool though. Note that if you decide to download the game, it’s over a gig of code. Set it to download at night and walk away.
In a personal note, I have somehow sprained my back, I think. It hurts to breathe…and like an idiot, I just moved a table so the carpet cleaner guys could do their voodoo…and now I have shooting pains running from my shoulders to my knees. ow, ow, ow, ow, ow. Gods, I hope I still have real painkillers somewhere in the house. Maybe a xanax will relax me enough that it stops spasming…but ow, ow, ow. I have no idea how I hurt myself in the first place, but this is insane levels of pain. Who knew your back could seize up like that? I mean, it hurts when I breathe…that can’t be right.
