Bush and Kerry both came out and babbled about “healing” and “coming together”, “unifying”. No! I will not…WE will not lay down our ideals, our struggles for the common man, our dedication to global common sense, or our commitment to the Constitution, so that we can “unify” with the most divisive, irrational, illogical, President this country has ever had.
Bush repeatedly repudiated the moderates in *his own* party in favor of currying favor with the people who would deny basic civil liberties to a large percentage of the population, to the corporate leaders who financed his billion dollar reelection bid, and to radicals who believe that women should pray to take care of problems like PMS and uterine cancer. He and his regime treat his opposition as traitors, creating an “us vs. them” mentality that threatens to destroy the country.
Bush, in his acceptance speech, spoke to the millions who voted against him and said, “I will need your support and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust … We have one country, one Constitution and one future that binds us. ” (Could we keep the speechwriters away from the Lord of the Rings scripts for a few weeks, please? And one to bind them indeed.)
Bush can do nothing to earn our trust, it’s gone…he pissed it away after September 2001. He’s like an cheating husband; “Come on baby, you know I love you…I swear, I won’t screw around on you again.” This is not the time for unity. This is the time to scream our differences from the rooftops.
We will not surrender to people who would force our gay friends back into the closet.
We will not surrender to people who would force rape victims into back alley abortionists.
We will not surrender to people who would rape our forests and wilderness to fuel a voracious appetite for profits.
We will not surrender to people who would send our jobs out of the country.
We will not surrender to people who would enslave our children with a obscene deficit.
We will not surrender to people who would sacrifice our Armed Forces for a personal vendetta.
We will not surrender to people who think *their* god should rule *our* lives.
We will not surrender.
