ouchies, ouchies!
So, those of you who know me in real life know that I’ve spent a fair amount of time in the last 5 years reconstructing my knees. So, guess what stupid thing I did yesterday? Stacked slippery mail on top of an area rug in my office while I was making “tax piles”.
The laws of chaos being what they are, naturally, the phone rang as I was trying to put the boy down for a nap, and as I was rushing to get the phone, I slipped and twisted holy hell out of my right knee. I can barely put my weight on it, it hurts so much. I can’t get into the orthepedic surgeon until Monday, so I don’t know how bad it it, or if it’s something that would just resolve itself if I could keep it elevated and cold.
Unfortunately, wrangling toddlers doesn’t lend itself to keeping one’s feet elevated, now do it? Heh. So, for today, at least, I’m going to use movies as a baby helper…and see how distracted I can keep the boy so as to avoid having to figure out how to get us both down stairs for as long as possible.
I’ve figured out how to get *me* up and down using a cane, but I can’t figure out how I’m going to get both of us down. He’s really great at going up the stairs, but he usually holds my hand to go down…and I have to hold on to the bannister and the cane to make it down…so the logistics of getting down for lunch are still being worked out. Thankfully, I still have a few hours in which to design a Rube Goldberg machine that will loft the boy onto the couches below. heh.
I read: “So, those of you who know me in real life know that I’ve spent a fair amount of time in the last 5 years on my knees.”
Confused, I skipped ahead, and got lost entirely after reading “wrangling toddlers” and “rube goldberg machine”.
The post makes much more sense now that I read the words actually on the screen, and not the words in my head.
Which may not always be true with my posts.
Ouch. If you need me, I can come over: I’ve gotten quite good at amputations with the corkscrew in my Swiss Army knife. I can take out the entire kneecap without touching anything else…
With one operative knee and one (I hope) bandaged or otherwise supported knee, is upping or downing the steps on your bottom(s) a doable thing? I’ve been known to do that when breathing is really bad and I simply must go up or down a flight of stairs, and that should be a funny way to progress for Tiptoes.
Gentle hugs and healing vibes for the poor Knee…. and don’t let that nutcase with the scorkscrew within ten inches of your knee! 8^)
Na, appreciate the offer…but my insurance policy strictly forbids surgery in the house. Those people…so picky.
Oh, I tried to convince him of that idea, he was having none of it. There was much fuss about the stairs since I couldn’t hold his hand…much screaming on both sides, with the end result that I poked him back up stairs with my cane, and went downstairs to make lunch and carry it up to him…it was just easier.
Sometimes the terrible twos are particularly rich in temperament, no?
