These are not my people…

I’m shocked, saddened and ready to leave Texas because of the sheer volume of support our “Fuck You Faggots” constitutional amendment got. 76%. 3/4 of the voters in this state voted against gays having equal rights. The “gay marriage” part of the law was a cover for the fact that the law has stripped gay couples of rights they had yesterday. And it’s not just gay couples either…it’s also hetro couples that live together without the state approved bit of paper.

I’ve been ready to leave Texas for a long time, cause this place just isn’t the place it was 25 years ago. I don’t know if it was all the people moving South that changed it, or if the bigots and ignorant rednecks just suddenly took a Tony Robbins class and became empowered, or what…but this place has turned into a caricature…a 3d, live action, neocon, cross toting, sheet wearing, caricature. I don’t know, maybe it’s the whole country. Perhaps it’s me…and the country has *always* been this polarized and this crazy and somehow I saw the world through Village-tinted glasses. I would never, never have imagined that prop 2 would get that level of support. It makes me realize that not only do I not know my neighbors, I’m not sure I want to.

I gotta find a nice Blue State or the mothership in Vancouver, or something. 76%. Seventy.fucking.six.percent!

The world scares me a little more today than it did yesterday.
