I have annoyed the soap gods. I don’t know how, I don’t know why…but I have had the last 30 pounds of soap just not work. Two batches turned out so bad that they can’t even be rebatched. (A vile, horrid smell.) In doing a little forensics, I think I’ve tracked it down to a batch of oils that I started using when this all started going toes up. The only thing I can think of is that the supplier is adulterating the oils to keep his costs down. I’m tempted to have them analyzed, but the cost would be silly.
So, I’ve ordered all new oils from Columbus Foods, the largest oil distributor in the country that also sells to small businesses. I’ve ordered all new essential oils of the ones I commonly use. Hopefully, that will fix the problem. If that doesn’t work, I’m sacrificing a trophy wife. Everyone’s invited. We’ll have bbq to follow.
On the upside, I did get a small batch of Good Morning Sunshine with clay to work. The color didn’t turn out the way I wanted, but the clay seems to be anchoring the citrus smells in a way that makes me happy. Plus, clay is so good for the skin.
Rose Geranium…continues my years long battle with anything Rose. I love rose, it’s one of my very favorite smells. I cannot for the life of me get a soap to work with it. But I have a liter of EO, some small batch molds…and I’m going to work through this if it kills me. I think maybe I’m working it too cold. Gonna try the next batch warm, see if that helps.
I really want to rework the line, and packaging, and all kinds of stuff…and I just seem to be in stasis. Probably because the Boy is such a full time job that I’m just exhausted by the time he goes to bed. I really need to find some reserves of energy or motivation, or something. I see loads of other women managing multiple children, with spotless houses, and careers/jobs, and can still make it to all the extracurricular activities demanded in the wilds of the surburban outback.
But me, not so much. My house is the same level of insane chaos it has always been. Only, more so…because now there’s all the soap stuff too. I’ve never had any housekeeping skills. I mean, the place is clean, it’s very clean. It’s just that I pick stuff up, clean under it, and put it down again. I file by strata. It’s scary. Utter chaos. And I just gave away an entire 18-wheeler’s worth of stuff to charity. Seriously, it took a couple of guys and an 18 wheeler to haul the load out of here. I think I could do it again, and still not have any idea how to organize it all.
I need a personal assistant. And a housekeeper. (Not a maid, I need someone way more multiskilled than that.) And a yard guy. A driver would be nice too. Frankly, if someone could do all the mundane crap, and I could play with The Boy, bake bread, cook, and make soap, that would be perfect.
