Did you ever just wake up mean? Mad at everyone? Not for any specific reason…but just because they were breathing where you could see them? Yeah…me too. Didja ever notice that those are the days when everything seems to go wrong? It’s like negative energy draws more negative energy to itself.
So, this morning, I woke up meaner than a rattlesnake on roundup day. And a whole series of things went wrong before the sun had fully crested the horizon. So I thought to myself, “Self, today would be a good day to make PMS soap, because *YOU* are a crazy person today.”
Now, intellectually speaking, making the aromatherapy blend was a really good idea, and I probably should have just dumped some on myself and gone and played WoW or something mindless; whereas making the most complicated, labor intensive, much equipment required soap on my product list was probably not one of my smarter ideas during a clumsy day.
But, let it never be said that I let common sense get in my way. So, I pulled out all the stuff; industrial freestanding planetary mixer, multiple bowls, all the trays for making the colored bits that float in the whipped part, essential oils, glass funnels, multiple pitchers, yadda, yadda, yadda.
And I get to making. Now, this soap has to be made at insanely low temps. Crazy low. Frozen low. Seriously. After I whip all the oils together, I put it in the freezer to get hard. So, while that’s freezing up, I make all the colored bits and make sure the lye mixture is getting cold enough. (That I don’t put in the freezer…for rather obvious reasons.) I also made up about 16 ounces of the Lunar Garden blend…which sort of instantly put me into a bliss state, and things started looking up.
Even after an epic disaster that ended up with me dripping in cold blobs of coconut oil, I was still able to laugh at the absurdity of the situation. I mean, how often do you find yourself doing a Lucille Ball impersonation accidentally?
On the upside, the batch is in the mold and looks like it will turn out to be gorgeous, the sample bars look really great and there was enough for me to test some new vegetable dyes.
I got pictures…but of course, it being today, I can’t find the cables to get them off my camera.
