Cosmetic Ingredients

October 26th, 2009 SpiderFarmer No comments

I’ve been doing a series of posts on cosmetic ingredients over at Soapy Hollow. I’m consolidating the posts on one monster page o’ ingredients as well.

Also, I’ve started doing tech writing related blogging over at The Art of Documentation.  I’m still adding content to the “services” section of the site, but I think the rest is pretty much ready to roll.  Feel free to bang on it and tell me what you think!

Vendor Review : Columbus/Soaper’s Choice

When you first get introduced to the addiction that is making soap, it’s easy to buy your materials at the grocery store. But as your addiction grows, or you find that people are throwing money at you to buy your creations, or you suddenly feel a burning desire to do an arts and crafts show, you quickly find that paying retail isn’t cost efficient when you’re making 30 pounds of soap.

When the world interferes

July 30th, 2008 SpiderFarmer No comments

Sorry about the lack of content this week. Not only did my blog blow up, but one of my potties did too, so there’s been much running around trying to fix it, then rip up the carpets, level and float the floor, find tile, and soon…lay tile. It’s been keeping me busy doing things which are not really soap related. (Unless you count the fact that I’m using a ton of Gardener’s Delight to get all the floor leveling goop off my hands and tools.)

I’ll try this afternoon to get a some of the reviews I promised done, and I’m going to start work on this week’s instructable, which I think is going to be chocolate bath melts. Yum!

Default…I hate default

July 29th, 2008 SpiderFarmer No comments

So, the only way I can seem to get the site working is to use the default permalink structure…which sucks, as it makes the site significantly less search engine friendly.

My poor server guys, who don’t support WP, have been so helpful, but WP really seems to dislike IIS, which is what we’re using because of legacy code for my cart. So, I’m in a position where I may have to lose either the cart or the blog, but I don’t seem to be able to run the both. Buggers.

Testing, 123

July 28th, 2008 SpiderFarmer No comments

Well, trying multiple themes and reinstalling has not fixed the problem. I think it’s possible my database is corrupted, and I may have to delete it and start all over. Hopefully, the WP export works and I’ll be able to restore all the content easily.

I dunno. Comments now seem to be broken, the more tag is broken, the navigation is hosed…I can’t figure out what went wrong on this site, but went flawlessly on my test server, which is also a live install. The only difference is that my test server is a linux box and this server…I think…is a MS server because of the legacy code in my shopping cart.

So, stay tuned, I think I may have to delete the database and site and start all over, which would really suck, but I’m not sure what else to try at this point.

Off to search the support forums.
